New WCH Master Plan Revealed

The New Women’s and Children’s Hospital (New WCH) has reached another major milestone with the release of the Master Plan for the Barracks site.
The Master Plan reveals key details about the benefits our new hospital will deliver for South Australian women, children and their families.
Key features and benefits of the New WCH include:
- 25% bigger than the current WCH
- Additional 56 overnight beds, with future capacity for a further 20
- A larger Emergency Department with 43 treatment spaces
- Critical care services; Birthing, Theatres, PICU and NICU all located on one floor
- An integrated Intensive Care Unit for women, co-located with the Paediatric ICU enabling women requiring high care to remain at the New WCH
- Dedicated Heliport with direct access to critical clinical areas
- Future proofing for cardiac surgery
- Dedicated sterilisation facilities
- Park Lands connectivity to assist families and enhance patient care
- Dedicated car park
- The New WCH and RAH will both have future capacity to expand
Our new hospital will provide family-friendly spaces and opportunities for connection to nature and the Park Lands.
Inaccessible Park Lands will be transformed into open, landscaped areas and will include a ‘nature Play’ area and a new playground for patients and families to enjoy seven days a week. This will be important for thousands of families with siblings who spend lengthy periods at hospital.
