The New Women’s and Children’s Hospital (New WCH) Project was recently invited to attend the African Women’s Federation of South Australia (AWFOSA) Maternal Health Care Expo.

The AWFOSA is a community-based organisation dedicated to empowering, supporting and representing the interests of African women and their families in the South Australian community.

The expo celebrated the progress and fantastic outcomes of the Stronger Together Maternal Health Care Project.

Attendees provided valuable feedback on the latest artist impressions and flyover video of the New WCH, and discussed the recently released New WCH Master Plan.

African women from over 14 different countries spoke of the importance of food, family, respect and connection to nature in their maternal journeys. These discussions will continue with African women representatives who have registered as WCHN consumer advocates during the design phase.

A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to the Consumer Engagement Project Manager, Dan Schmidt, to recognise the Project’s ongoing support of the AWFOSA Maternal Health Care Project.

The WCHN’s partnership with AWFOSA has also been nominated and selected as a finalist for the 2023 WCHN Excellence Awards for Excellence in Consumer Partnerships.

The New WCH Project will continue to undertake ongoing consultation with a number of African organisations to ensure their voices, experiences, ideas and feedback are considered throughout the design phase of our new hospital.
