Our new hospital is set to expand thanks to the State Government’s commitment to deliver 70 additional overnight beds.
Our new hospital is set to expand thanks to the State Government’s commitment to deliver 70 additional overnight beds.
These additional beds provide 56 more overnight beds compared to our current site with in-built capacity for a further 20 beds into the future.
A workshop and a number of follow-up meetings with clinicians have been held to discuss the allocation of the additional beds.
Based on clinician input and with consideration of network requirements, it is being proposed that the extra beds will be allocated to the following areas:
- 24 more paediatric medical beds (20 immediately, 4 future capacity)
- 10 more mental health beds
- 8 more PICU beds (4 immediately, 4 future capacity)
- 8 more paediatric surgical beds (4 immediately, 4 future capacity)
- 4 more oncology beds
- 4 more adolescent beds
- 4 new women’s ICU beds
- 8 more future capacity obstetrics beds
Our current WCH has 338 beds, the former new WCH plan had 344 beds and now the new hospital will have 414 beds capacity.
We are confident that we have the right mix of beds and departments to meet clinical requirements and future demand so we can continue to deliver world-class healthcare to South Australian families for generations to come, but now we want to hear from you.
Consultation on the proposed allocation of the additional beds was open for a three-week period, closing on Wednesday, 19 October 2022.
